Now that I’m past the first trimester, I’m starting to feel like a human being again (although a nauseous human being still).
Those first few months were a tough ride. I heard twin pregnancies can be rougher on the body (more hormones, more body changes, etc etc), but honestly, I know people with singleton pregnancies who had it worse than I did! Still, no matter what level of morning sickness and exhaustion you’re likely dealing with in the first trimester, there are tons of safe, natural products out there to help you get some relief.
I try to be as natural as I can, but let’s face it, I love makeup and fast food, too. #notsorry
That said, here are 7 things that helped get me through the first trimester (relatively) comfortably!
#1 Snoogle Body Pillow
THIS THING IS MAGIC. For one, my dog uses it more than I do, I think. 🙄
Two, it will easily transition to a dog bed after I’m done with it.
Oh and three, did I mention it fits an 80lb Doberman?
In all seriousness, I have a bad back. I have been sleeping on my side since it’s supposed to be better for the babies, and have found it a hard adjustment. Being able to pop this between my knees for hip support has been super helpful.
I still wake up with back pain (I always have), but it’s at pre-pregnancy levels instead of what I was going through in those first few weeks from 8-11!
Also, the head cushion part is really comfy. More so than my memory foam pillow. +1
You can shop it here on Amazon.
#2 Burt’s Bees Anti-Blemish Skincare
I have always had bad acne since I was like 11! It’s been a constant struggle in my life.
Before getting pregnant, I doused my face in every product on the market from prescription to over-the-counter and the highest amount of chemicals I could find (lol).
There’s some evidence (though not conclusive) that benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can cause problems for baby during pregnancy, so it’s best to avoid these. But as the top two acne-fighting ingredients out there, what’s a pimpled mama to do?!
Surprisingly, I found the Burt’s Bees line pretty effective. My acne started improving on its own around Week 14, but even now, I still get breakouts weekly (as I always have in my life). This keeps them under control and really works on the redness, too.
I use the cleanser and the moisturizer every day. Best part? It’s available via Amazon Prime for lazy-ass, fast shipping to my house. Ha.
Shop the cleanser here, and the moisturizer here.
#3 Palmer’s Stretch Mark Lotion
I’m still too early to have any stretch marks, but I’m sure I’ll get them.
To be honest, I don’t really care about getting stretch marks. They fade over time. I’m worried about the dreaded “twin skin.” *shudder*
I’ve been lathering up with this every day and night and so far, so good.
It actually really helps with the itchy, pulling skin feeling as your bump starts to grow. Mine’s been growing at double-speed since I’m preggo with twins.
Also, I love that this is only like $8 on Amazon.
You can also get it at Walmart and the drug store, too.
#4 Thyme Maternity Leggings
Let’s get one thing out of the way: I am a big booty girl, okay.
That means I need THICK leggings that don’t show my big white ass to the world if I even slightly bend over. These leggings from Thyme pass the test.
At $43 a pop, I was like “HELL NO.” I don’t pay that much for leggings ever. Until I tried them. Now I own 4 pairs. 🙈 In my defense, you do get 30% off if you buy two.
They’re stretchy, bump-supporting, comfy, and thick enough to wear with just a t-shirt without worrying about butt-flashing anyone.
You can shop them here at Thyme Maternity.
#5 Nestle Sparkling Water
The raspberry one tastes like a mojito, that’s all I gotta say.
I drank this a lot in the first trimester as a replacement for alcoholic cocktails and it is really delicious! Plus, zero sugar or unnatural ingredients. It was really helpful getting through Christmas party season being surrounded by beer and wine!
I can’t wait for my first glass of wine after the twins come, but for now, this stuff is a tasty treat that’s good for you, too.
#6 Mini Eggs
Come on, I don’t even need to type anything here.
Mini Eggs are life. 🙌🏼
#7 TUMS Chewables
These really helped me during the week 13-17 heartburn/nausea festival that is still ongoing. Yikes.
I bought the regular peppermint ones but I found them too strong and almost made me want to puke more. These cherry chewable ones taste good and work fast. The package says you’re only allowed 4 a day for pregnant women, so keep that in mind…
I found they were most helpful if I took one right before bed so I could lay down a bit (still on an incline) and actually fall asleep.
What do you swear by to help make pregnancy a little more comfortable? Let me know in the comments… I’ve still got a long way ahead of me!
