I am nearing the end of the 8th week and things are about to get REAL, people!
That’s because we got some shocking news today at my first-ever ultrasound…
IT’S TWINS!
WTF.
Hold the banana phone.
What is life.
HALP.
We are so overwhelmed, excited, scared, nervous, worried and everything in between! I thought if I could just get a heartbeat on my 8 week ultrasound for my baby, my mind would be at ease for the rest of my pregnancy.
Life said a big NOPE to that!
Thankfully, both babies are measuring well and have strong heartbeats, at 159 and 178.
They are not sure if I am mono-mono or mono-di, though. I go back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound to see if they can find a membrane separation between the two babies. If not, that means I’m mono-mono which is high-risk as both babies grow in the same amniotic sac and their cords could get tangled or interrupted, resulting in problems for one or both of them… the entire pregnancy! Oh boy.
So, I hope they are mono-di but we’ll know in a few weeks. Regardless, my care plan has changed drastically and I’ll be referred to a specialist now for the rest of my care.
Kind of bummed my natural birth plan may be out the window, but there is still a chance with multiples to have a natural, intervention-free pregnancy and delivery… we’ll see!
Of course the most important thing is that they are healthy. I am fully willing to become a lab rat for the next 7 months to ensure their continued development and health.
BUT WOW. This sure changes things! Things like when we’ll start to tell people, to now I need a new car, to things like how much work I can get done after they’re born (maybe none?!).
Just taking it one day at a time!
P.S. I would like to add that this means I am not, in fact, fat and am showing already because of twins. I feel redeemed now and reassured that my 3 sizes up pants and 2 sizes up bra after 6 weeks are a result of twins, instead of cheeseburger cravings.
Oh, now I want a cheeseburger, gotta go…
